Another year begins, another slate wiped clean... Ah... The annual baptism is upon us but what exactly does our future hold? Before I share with you our New Year's celebration, I'm going to recap a few major highlights of 2009 that somewhat altered the course of my life.
1) 3 June 2009 - Our 6th year anniversary and my proposal to my lovely fiancee (shudders for all you people). This has got to be the biggest step forward for us.
2) 30 July 2009 - My Operational Ready Date (not that I'm any more capable of saving anybody during wartime). I'm glad to be relieved of my duties no matter how insignificant.
3) 3 August 2009 - First day back in school since Cain spanked Abel. A small step in getting my brain working again.
4) 15 August 2009 - The maiden voyage of our race boat - Majulah. Tis' always a holy rite for sailors to have their boat christened. We hope it races well and true!
5) 6 November 2009 - First exam since Cain became jealous of Abel. I don't think I did too badly at all. Well done Terence!
6) 14 December 2009 - The first most important regatta for Roy and I. Needed a good result to appease selectors for funding.
And that was how the cookie crumbled for me. I wish everyone have had a wonderful year and an even better year ahead!
Now, back to celebrations. A quick research on the ever dependable google set us up on a date with the Royal Botanical Gardens with supposedly splendid views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. What we didn't expect was a gazillion other people knew about the gardens and its' panoramic views it offered!
We rocked up at 2 in the arvo thinking that we were pretty radical ourselves but oh Lord my God... It took us a good 5 min walk from the start of the queue to the tail end. And when we did finally get through the hallowed gates of the gardens, we couldn't even find a good size spot to even stand in where the views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge were unhindered. We did, however, manage to squeeze in a small patch of grass and sat our asses down for good 8 hours plus.
Come fireworks time, much to our disappointment and those beside us, the great tree which shadeth us also blocketh our view. Thankfully there were a few takes of fireworks (first one at 9p.m. for the kiddies so they could go home and sleep, and every hour till midnight thereafter) for me to snap a few shots.
All in all, the experience was a pretty good one but not one to die for. If we are still around next year, maybe we'll just take my boat out in the harbour!
